Being Steadfast ~ Grace and Truth Week 35

September 11, 2015 by jstults Leave a Comment

Being steadfast isn’t easy in an ever-changing world, one where we “debate” over dead baby parts and watch children lose their heads for the sake of Christ. A world where twin towers haunt our memories, teaching us that even in Amercia, we are not untouchable.

Our world is full of sin and evil, and not just the kind that lives halfway around the world, but the kind that touches you and me everyday.

I’m talking about the kind of evil that destroys countries and churches and marriages and children and people….so many people.

It’s enough to make a woman heart-weary and numb.

When we face such trying situations, whether personal or not, what will our response be?

Will we stand firm in the Lord?

Or will our feelings overrun us?

Ifeoma from Purposeful and Meaningful shared some lovely words and scriptures on this topic last week.  Be sure to stop by and be encouraged!

Don’t be moved, friends. Now more than ever, we need those beacons of light to pierce the  encroaching darkness. We need steadfast hands and steady hearts to bring a balm of comfort and peace to a broken and hope-hungry world.

Don’t be moved, my sisters in Christ.

Not now.

Jen 🙂

Share the Gospel ~ Grace and Truth Week 34

September 4, 2015 by jstults Leave a Comment

Every once in a while our eyes are opened in a powerful way to the lost of this world.

Maybe your eyes are opened through news of a tragic natural event taking the lives of many, or maybe it’s a single boy washed up on the shore of a distant land, lifeless.

They are all around us, you know, those who may not even know who Jesus is and those who do know of Him but remain separated from Him.

When did we forget the power of the gospel?

So often we wake up in the mornings, get busy with our days, work hard until evening, and fall into bed exhausted, never once thinking of those who are waiting for Good News and the freedom that follows. I know because many days that’s me – too caught up in this world to focus on that beyond.

As my husband and I work through the church-planting process, we’re realizing that we’ve lost sight of the importance of living life on purpose in some ways. We grew weary and settled for “good enough.”

That ought not be, friends, not when it comes to spreading the Gospel.

We cannot sit back and wait for the perfect opportunities, or for a miraculous sign from the Lord, or for encouragement from others, or for whatever “it” is that we’ve been waiting for. What kind of faith do we have if we are waiting for the perfect combination to guarantee our success?

I want a faith that is fierce, a faith that forges ahead even when discouragement strikes, a faith that leads to victory in His Name.

Who will choose boldness with me?

Let’s quit leaving the Gospel-sharing job to pastors and missionaries and husbands and all of the other someone elses in the world. Instead, let’s love others enough to put our own pride at risk and share a little truth with someone in need.

Maybe you’re thinking, but I’m not naturally an out-going person and I’m certainly no evangelist.  Here’s the thing, we’re all commanded to go and make disciples – not just those who are naturally out-going or who find it easy to share.  Hard truth? Yes, I know!

In fact, often throughout the Bible we’re commanded to sacrifice, to do things that lead us straight out of our comfort zones because we serve a big God and He wants us to learn to rely fully on Him.

So because I know how nerve-wracking it can be, I’d love to share with you a cool new tool I recently learned about. It’s called the Life Conversations Guide App (from the North American Mission Board) and is available for both android and apple devices. There is even a Spanish version!

It’s like a gospel tract right on your phone. You’ll always have it with you! Even more, the fact that it utilizes technology instantly generates more curiosity, especially among younger generations.

Once you’ve downloaded it, watch this brief video that explains a little of how to use it. 🙂

The best part is that once you download and use it yourself, you can also encourage those you share it with to download it themselves. Why? They can go over the talking points again on their own, and they can even watch a video version that explains the Gospel.

And here are 20 more ways to share the gospel, just in case.

Ok, now you and I both have no excuses!

On to the link-up…

Jen 🙂

When Life Gets Busy ~ Grace and Truth Week 33

August 28, 2015 by jstults 2 Comments

I’m so happy it’s Friday already, friends! We’ve had one of those weeks when you just fall into bed exhausted every night. 🙂  Has it been unbelievably busy at your house lately, too?

Today we lay a friend to rest, and yesterday we visited a friend in in the hospital who is hopefully waiting for word on whether or not she qualifies for a heart transplant. And as I type these words, an MK acquaintance of mine sits in intensive care with her baby, waiting for healing to take place.

I know we hear it all of the time, but that doesn’t make it any less true: life is short.  We’re not even guaranteed another day with our loved ones.

So as you finish out this week and all of its busyness, don’t forget to take time for one another as a husband and wife, and as a family (yes, I’m telling myself this, too!).  Keeping those bonds strong is more important now than ever before!

This week’s featured post is from Gwen at An Island Family by Grace. Gwen shares about a difficult time in their marriage, as well as 7 strategies for coping.  I especially like suggestions #2 and #7!  Be sure to stop by and visit her this week. 🙂

Find more encouraging words in the link-up below!

Hold fast,

Jen 🙂

The Freedom of Asking for Help ~ Grace and Truth Week 32

August 21, 2015 by jstults 3 Comments

Are you struggling this week, friends?

Are your loved ones struggling?

These words from Dawn at Journeys in Grace are full of such depth:

“In my need to be, ‘ok’, I missed a vital part of the victory over the cycle of war that has seen generations. I left out the freedom that comes from saying, I need prayer today.”

It’s a “meat and potatoes” kind of meal for the soul!  Be sure to stop by and be filled.

Listening for His Voice ~ Grace and Truth Week 31

August 14, 2015 by jstults 3 Comments

Hello faithful readers and friends!  It’s our favorite part of the week when we share and find all sorts of encouragement in the Grace and Truth Christian Living link-up. 🙂

Since I missed sharing a feature last week due to our lovely and relaxing family time away, I thought I’d share two features this week!  (Okay, truthfully I just really liked more than one, haha.)

I found encouraging words that really spoke to our current in-between status as we wait for approval to begin church-planting from Christi over at The Cheerio Trail.  Have you ever thought about learning to recognize the enemy’s pattern of attack in your life so that you can more easily head it off? Love these tips – especially number 2!

You can also follow Christi on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, as well as hear her voice via podcast.

I also really enjoyed this week’s post from Sarah at Abiding in Grace.  Sarah reminded me that the key to waiting is really rather simple. If you want to know, you’ll have to read it yourself. 🙂

You can also find Sarah on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Thanks to all of you for continuing to share quality Christian Living content with us each week. We appreciate you!

Listen for His voice this week, friends.

Grace and Truth Week 29

July 31, 2015 by jstults Leave a Comment

It’s our favorite time of the week, right?! Fridays mean the Grace and Truth link-up goes live, so we are all ready for your encouraging Christian Living posts!

This week I’m happy to share with you a post from Deborah at Growing in His Grace about When His Words Hurt.

Deborah discusses those times when we spend time in the Word and what we read there hurts us. What will we choose to do when that happens?

I pray this week you will grow in Christ-likeness,

even through hurt or pain,

and that His love for you will be evident.

Until next week,
Jen 🙂

Trusting Jehovah Jireh ~ Grace and Truth Week 28

July 24, 2015 by jstults 2 Comments

I know I said it last week, too, but summer really is flying by!  Can you believe it’s Friday again already? And time for the Grace and Truth Christian Living link-up?

I’m looking forward to a slower pace and some great family time at the beginning of August – going camping, sort of. Sometimes we need that time away to help us focus on one another and enjoy being a family.

I found so many encouraging words from you all last week that choosing a featured post was a little difficult.

However, considering the season we are in with my husband still looking for work, I found this post about Trusting God to Mulitply Your Resources (from Kathryn at Finding Hope) to be especially timely.

Kathryn can also be found on facebook if you like to connect there. 🙂

Thanks for sharing truth from the Word with us, Kathryn!

Jen 🙂

Thanks for linking up with us last week. If you were featured, feel free to grab a featured button below!

Simplifying Time With God ~ Grace and Truth Week 27

July 17, 2015 by jstults 6 Comments

It’s Friday again already and time for the Grace and Truth Christian Living link-up!

We’ve been through a couple of tough weeks lately due to a situation at our church that resulted in my husband resigning as pastor. So while I have your attention for a minute, can I ask you to pray with us about our future?  Right now, my husband is jobless, but we are counting it joy that the Lord continues to be faithful in this difficult time!

Lately, I’ve been convicted of the need to draw even nearer to God, especially considering our current circumstances. In fact, considering all that is going on in our world right now, I believe all Christians need to draw ever nearer!  Let’s humble ourselves before the Lord and pray for our lost world!

If you find it difficult to make time to draw near to God, then you’ll appreciate this week’s featured post from Betsy at Faith Spilling Over.  Betsy shares a simple technique for focusing your quiet time on a single verse. Even though the technique is simple, I believe it can be powerful to affect change in our daily lives!

Be sure to read below to learn Betsy’s secret for effective quiet time even in times of busyness. 🙂

And while you’re at it, why not join Betsy on Facebook? 🙂

Thank you, Betsy, for sharing with us last week.

See you all in the link-up!

Jen 🙂

Jesus Wins ~ Grace and Truth Week 26

July 10, 2015 by jstults 12 Comments

I come to you this week with a sad and weary heart, friends.

Why?

Because I am witnessing firsthand what happens within a local body of Christ when leaders begin to question the validity of God’s Word and assert society’s interpretation onto Holy Scripture.

There is a sense of loss, of betrayal, of disappointment and devastation that I cannot adequately convey to you.

And I share this with you not to stir up some former controversy or to rehash previously argued points. No, I think by now we all know where we stand as individuals.

I share this story here because the closeness of this particular disappointment made me realize how lonely recent events might make one feel. And I’ve learned over my lifetime that loneliness is one of the enemy’s greatest weapons when we allow it to be.

Many of you are finding yourselves in a similar unexpected minority amongst your friends who also claim Christ.

You may feel utterly alone and be tempted to acquiesce. You may even be falsely accused, your character maligned, your morals despised.

Your very Christianity called into question.

To you, my Bible-believing, Christ-following friends, I would say take heart!

You are certainly not alone in your view on the authority of God’s Holy Word. You are certainly not alone in your desire for truth-telling either. I hope to share more with you on that later this week. 🙂

That said, I appreciate this voice this week:

“When the leading pastors of the land begin distorting the truth and adjusting the principles to fit the current cultural trends the moral compass gives an uncertain reading.” ~ F. Dean Hackett

Uncertain – yes, these are uncertain times.

Yet this voice here, gives me hope for what is to come:

“If there is any good that could come from this Supreme Court decision, it would be that a clear and distinct call would go out to the body of Christ to repent.” ~ Rosilind Jukic

Let it be, Lord.

So carry these words from Jesus with you into the coming weeks:

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” Jn. 16:33

Because in the end,

Jesus wins.

Jen 🙂
