Listening for His Voice ~ Grace and Truth Week 31

August 14, 2015 by jstults 3 Comments

Hello faithful readers and friends!  It’s our favorite part of the week when we share and find all sorts of encouragement in the Grace and Truth Christian Living link-up. 🙂

Since I missed sharing a feature last week due to our lovely and relaxing family time away, I thought I’d share two features this week!  (Okay, truthfully I just really liked more than one, haha.)

I found encouraging words that really spoke to our current in-between status as we wait for approval to begin church-planting from Christi over at The Cheerio Trail.  Have you ever thought about learning to recognize the enemy’s pattern of attack in your life so that you can more easily head it off? Love these tips – especially number 2!

You can also follow Christi on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, as well as hear her voice via podcast.

I also really enjoyed this week’s post from Sarah at Abiding in Grace.  Sarah reminded me that the key to waiting is really rather simple. If you want to know, you’ll have to read it yourself. 🙂

You can also find Sarah on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Thanks to all of you for continuing to share quality Christian Living content with us each week. We appreciate you!

Listen for His voice this week, friends.
Jen 🙂

Grace and Truth Week 29

July 31, 2015 by jstults Leave a Comment

It’s our favorite time of the week, right?! Fridays mean the Grace and Truth link-up goes live, so we are all ready for your encouraging Christian Living posts!

This week I’m happy to share with you a post from Deborah at Growing in His Grace about When His Words Hurt.

Deborah discusses those times when we spend time in the Word and what we read there hurts us. What will we choose to do when that happens?

I pray this week you will grow in Christ-likeness,

even through hurt or pain,

and that His love for you will be evident.

Until next week,
Jen 🙂

Practical Help for Christian Bloggers

July 21, 2015 by jstults 32 Comments

As a Christian bloggers, we want to do our best to honor God and His Word in all that we write, say, and do. Yes?

Yet there is this tension in faith blogging between worrying about pleasing God rather than man and becoming a successful blogger.

If you are a Christian blogger, I’m sure you’ve felt it.

You don’t want to be a sell-out.

You’re not in it for the money but for the message.

Thus, your definition of “success” varies greatly from the typical blogger who is mostly concerned with building a blog that is successful according to the world’s means.

Are you a Christian Blogger who needs help growing your reach in a Christ-honoring manner? Look no further! Christian Bloggers Bootcamp offers practical strategies that are unique to the Christian blogging niche. Join now during open registration!

At the same, we cannot reach others with the message unless we learn how to make the best use of our blogs and social media outlets.

How can you best set your light on the lampstand so that it can shine before men without letting pride take over?

How can you use best blogging practices for His glory without becoming consumed by numbers and your own small fame?

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Mt. 5:14-16 (NASB)

It’s not an easy balance to achieve, is it?

We want to do our best to get the message out there, yet we know that numbers and dollars are not our best measure of success, not as Christian Bloggers.

It reminds me of that whole be in the world but not of the world dynamic that applies to so much of Christian life.

Well, today I offer you some practical help and hope for achieving this balance, friends!  I know some of you are waiting anxiously for the re-opening of Christian Bloggers Bootcamp by missionary and author Arabah Joy because you’ve heard about it from other like-minded bloggers.

Why recommend this course above all others?

Because I know Arabah Joy personally.

She has become a mentor to me, not just in my writing, but also in my spiritual life. Her faith is real, folks, and that’s what I admire most about her.

Because I know her heart for God’s message and her desire to spread the influence of other Christian bloggers, I have learned that I can trust her advice!

“We live in a dark world. As a follower of Christ, I consider it not only a joy but a duty to invest in other Christian bloggers whose effectiveness would dramatically increase by learning the key things I have learned.”  ~ Arabah Joy

Working together with Arabah and a close group of other Christian bloggers has helped me to increase page views by 40 percent so far.

Thus far I have only implemented part of Arabah’s Pinterest strategy for Christian bloggers and some of her Facebook wisdom, and already I’m seeing significant growth, not only in pageviews, but also in followers on both platforms and this blog.

I’m excited to see the snowball effect that implementing just a few key strategies for Christian bloggers has already created, and I can’t begin to imagine what the full effect will be once I work through the modules.

Now I want to learn more! 🙂

So, I highly recommend to you Arabah Joy’s Christian Bloggers Bootcamp, which is now open for registration!

Arabah understands the balance required by faith-blogging and she also understands that many typical blogging tips just don’t fit our unique niche.

Christian Bloggers need strategies that fit the nature of our subject!

UPDATE**  I have to tell you all that I failed to realize the value of this facebook group at first. Aside from the excellent content within the course itself, the Christian Bloggers Bootcamp facebook page is my favorite feature. I know anytime I have a question, whether practical or ethical in nature, I can come to this group of ladies and know that they are approaching blogging as a ministry in the same way I am. That means I can more readily trust their advice to lead me in ways that are God-honoring rather than self-promoting. Additionally, because of their faith, they are eager to share tried and true techniques and eager to help one another. This group alone makes the course worth the financial investment, in my opinion!

Jesus Wins ~ Grace and Truth Week 26

July 10, 2015 by jstults 12 Comments

I come to you this week with a sad and weary heart, friends.

Why?

Because I am witnessing firsthand what happens within a local body of Christ when leaders begin to question the validity of God’s Word and assert society’s interpretation onto Holy Scripture.

There is a sense of loss, of betrayal, of disappointment and devastation that I cannot adequately convey to you.

And I share this with you not to stir up some former controversy or to rehash previously argued points. No, I think by now we all know where we stand as individuals.

I share this story here because the closeness of this particular disappointment made me realize how lonely recent events might make one feel. And I’ve learned over my lifetime that loneliness is one of the enemy’s greatest weapons when we allow it to be.

Many of you are finding yourselves in a similar unexpected minority amongst your friends who also claim Christ.

You may feel utterly alone and be tempted to acquiesce. You may even be falsely accused, your character maligned, your morals despised.

Your very Christianity called into question.

To you, my Bible-believing, Christ-following friends, I would say take heart!

You are certainly not alone in your view on the authority of God’s Holy Word. You are certainly not alone in your desire for truth-telling either. I hope to share more with you on that later this week. 🙂

That said, I appreciate this voice this week:

“When the leading pastors of the land begin distorting the truth and adjusting the principles to fit the current cultural trends the moral compass gives an uncertain reading.” ~ F. Dean Hackett

Uncertain – yes, these are uncertain times.

Yet this voice here, gives me hope for what is to come:

“If there is any good that could come from this Supreme Court decision, it would be that a clear and distinct call would go out to the body of Christ to repent.” ~ Rosilind Jukic

Let it be, Lord.

So carry these words from Jesus with you into the coming weeks:

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” Jn. 16:33

Because in the end,

Jesus wins.

Jen 🙂

The Growing Identity ~ Grace and Truth Week 25

July 3, 2015 by jstults 1 Comment

You know what Friday means, right? You’ll find lots of encouraging words here at the Grace and Truth Link-up! 🙂

I’ll get right down to business because I have so much to share with you this week.  Last week we had unplanned visitors, so I failed to choose a featured post, but I’m making up for it this week.

First, Christi at The Cheerio Trail took me back to my blogging roots when she wrote about growing in grace about our own expectations. I just love being reminded of that work in progress going on in me. Visit her post below where you can either read OR listen to the podcast! 🙂

Second, I want to mention Kathryn’s post, The World’s Less Than or God’s More Than, because it goes right along with Christi’s post from above! Stop by and find more encouraging words about your identity in Christ.

Third, Cheryl’s grace-filled post, When Your Child Feels Misunderstood, for parents really had something in it for us adults, too.  Whether you have children or not, this one is a must-read!

And finally, Bestsy shared some parenting advice for those teenage years in What Does My Teen Girl Need From Me.  If you’re not to that stage yet, be sure to save it for later. (This is why I love Pinterest so much!)

And the Emmy goes to…

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. 🙂

I blame it on my prednisone-induced insomnia.

In all seriousness, though, I could have shared every post I read here this past week because the quality was just “that” good. Thank you all for sharing with us each week.

We appreciate you!

Jen 🙂

The Whole World ~ Grace and Truth Week 23

June 19, 2015 by jstults Leave a Comment

That big wide world out there has been on my mind a lot this week. Maybe it’s because last week’s post about my missionary kid (MK) years brought back a lot of memories for me.

Or it might be on my mind because I’ve seen firsthand that parts of the world remain woefully unreached by the Good News.

Whatever the reason, I’m seeing missions wherever I look, it seems. 🙂  So, this week’s feature is right along those same lines. Joanne from Days and Thoughts shares her take on the World and its “global community.” I just love what she has to say about the origins of the global community ministry!

Be sure to stop by and visit her post by clicking the photo below!

How can you contribute to reaching the unreached this week?

Jen 🙂

Storms and Sparrows ~ Grace and Truth Week 20

May 29, 2015 by jstults 1 Comment

Summer break has arrived and we are ecstatic!  We celebrated the last day of school yesterday with a squirtgun fight when the kiddos got home, and boy was that water cold.It was worth getting soaked to see them enjoy celebrating, though. 🙂

In addition to the first day of summer break (for us anyways), it’s also time for Grace and Truth!  Can you believe it’s our 20th week already?

Last week I noticed a common theme among many of the posts I read – trials in life and how we deal with them. So, I have two features for you today, although they were all good reads.

Lisa Murray shares about a wounded bird and what it taught her about being trapped.

“No matter what place you are in today, no matter what painful season holds you in its uncomfortable and tortured grasp, there are three things you can do to embrace healing in the middle of your pain.

Johanna from Devoted to Maker compares trials to tidal waves that just keep coming.  She pinpoints a variety of waves in life – some I hadn’t even thought of.

“Are you barely treading water only to take a quick breath before another trial pulls you under? Have you been pleading with the Lord to help you overcome the trials so you won’t completely drown? “

Click the picture below to read the rest of Johanna’s encouraging words for surviving those waves.

Whether you find yourself just exiting a storm, right in the midst of one, or just about to enter one, keep in mind that “His eye is on the Sparrow.”

He watches you and me.

Jen 🙂

Honesty in Tough Times ~ Grace and Truth Week 17

May 8, 2015 by jstults Leave a Comment

Happy Friday, friends!  I’m going to hop right to business this week since our schedule is still so crazy.  My mantra this week is “make it to Sunday.” 🙂

My feature for this week is Michele of Family, Faith and Fridays. Michele wrote such an honest piece about her struggles as a military wife. Even though I’m not a military wife, I can relate to so much of what she shared. I’m sure you can relate, too.

Have you had to ask the Lord to change your heart lately? I know I have! Be sure to click the image below to visit Michele and read her story. 🙂

Beyond Comfort ~ Grace and Truth Week 10

March 20, 2015 by jstults 2 Comments

Hello, friends! How has your week been? I’ll be honest. It’s been a little up and down here. I’ve learned that I do really well persevering as long as I’m receiving fairly constant encouragement and seeing results. But the minute I run into a roadblock, I often begin to lose heart.

Earlier this year when I wrote about the word Persevere being my word for the year, I had no idea how much I needed to learn in this area. Part of persevering for me seems to be maintaining hope.  It’s obviously still a work in progress, but the Father has been faithful in giving me this lesson in many different areas of my life. He’s making the message nearly impossible to miss. 🙂

Last week’s Grace and Truth was full of repeated messages as well, it seems! I read several posts about letting go of fear so that we might become who God created us to be. I also read a few about how BIG our Father God truly is.  But two posts stood out to me in particular because of some situations we have faced both in our family and in ministry.

Meredith from According2Meredith wrote about how often we let others down when they need help the most – perhaps because of mistakes they have made, etc.. I agree with much of what she wrote and think it falls right in line with Agape love – that unconditional love Jesus shows to all of us sinners who mess up time and time again.  Loving others requires us to go beyond what we are comfortable with.

Along the same lines, Ruth from The Mustard Seed wrote about practicing what we preach in the Church.  Is it possible that our churches have become so “middle-class” as to make those who feel lesser-than avoid them?  How can we reach those who really need to hear Truth?

It’s easy to grow comfortable in our Christian “bubbles” and forget about the world out there that desperately needs saving!  I know I’m guilty of losing that urgency from time to time.

I look forward to reading what you all have to share this week!

Jen 🙂
